Boy and bird

The eagle Harris hawk has landed :-) Ropey photo in technical terms, but just had to be blipped!

Day of Trying New Things today. First off was Son One doing a reading at church this morning (John 1:1-5 if you want to look it up!). He'd read on Thursday to the old folk, and was so keen to do it again he immediately wrote a letter to the minister asking if he could do it again some time. His expression and intonation were just brilliant (and that's not just mummy bragging, several other people said so too!). I'm just glad he didn't go with the Dalek voice he'd been practicing in :-D

This afternoon we headed to Hamptworth Country Fayre. It's something we've been meaning to do every summer since we moved here 5 years ago but haven't manage yet! Highlights of the day were the falconry display, where as you can see Son One and TPD were keen to get involved! We spent a lot of time in a Civil War encampment (living history display). Son One had a go at making his own rope. He also got to see how musket balls were made (and bring one home), and to wield a very big, very heavy sword!

We all had a go at archery - I managed the target with all 6 of my arrows and actually managed to hit the gold once too!

Son One also had a go at casting (fly-fishing). The chap who was teaching him said he was a natural and clearly had an aptitude for it - think we might have found him a new hobby :-)

All in all it was a grand day out.
