I think Toronto must be one of the most diverse cities on the planet. Canada has traditionally had a fairly open immigration policy and wave after wave of people from around the world have settled here.

The majority of my colleagues were not born in Canada. In my small department there are people from Russia, Hong Kong, France, India, Brazil, Estonia and Italy.

My grandparents came here from Poland, Lithuania and Russia to escape poverty and persecution a century ago. It's rare to find a Torontonian whose roots go back more than three generations.

It's one of the qualities of the city I most enjoy. I make for interesting neighbourhoods and great restaurants!
