My Old Chess Set

I got this when I was a schoolboy, but never played chess very much. It probably hasn't been used for at least 50 years. The pieces are carved wood, and they were made in France, not China. I think that must make them quite rare.

It makes a nice decorative item on one of our bookshelves.
