Beached by The Worm's Head
In a last-minute change to the itinerary today, we headed for the beach at Rhossili, recently chosen as one of the top ten in the UK! It and the weather were fabulous and whilst there, I took a walk to the Worm's Head. Accessible only at low tide, we had to wait for the waters to recede sufficiently to make the crossing.
One or two of the walkers were being impatient, prompting sirens to be unleashed and stern voices to be rasied over a very loud Coastguard loudspeaker.
I've really struggled to choose the blip pic today. In the end, there wasn't one that captured the beauty of the beach and worm's head. I favoured this one for the strata in the rocks of the beach and posted a selection of my prolific shooting on Flickr
I understand that the use of the word 'worm' here is a derivation of wurm - an old word meaning dragon. The mile-long feature is said to resemble a dragon's body, particularly at high tide.
