Camping: Day 2

Cedar Planked Salmon. Grilled over the open fire. The smells were ridiculously good. Shrimp cocktail delivered on a tray around the campfire. Yes, delivered! I was in heaven. I loooove shrimp cocktail. Three different flavors of marinated salmon and two delicious salads. I wish I could remember the name of them. Very fancy sounding. The entire meal was a hit.

And then came the Yukka. Yukka is a family tradition for part of this group. Let me describe it to you. A huge pickle glass jar. I think pickle jar....or maybe one of those huge jars you make tea in. Anyways, you fill the jar halfway or so with ice. Dump 12 squeezed lemons and a bunch of sugar. Top that off with a bottle of Vodka. And you've just make the biggest lemon drop on earth. Then here is how the activity works. If you don't shake.....you don't partake. Everyone involved has to shake this jar for at least five minutes. It has to be shaken for almost a half an hour. The drink gets ice cold. And you have to wrap a towel around it because it gets too cold to handle. Then, everyone sits around the campfire and you pass it around the group. One sip, pass it on. Next sip, pass it on. And yes, everyone is sipping from the same jar. It's the name of the game. And it creates the biggest social happy hour you've ever seen. 'Yukka Night' usually happens on night two.
