Black Abalone (top view) part 2
After looking up the black abalone on wikipedia, I was severly gutted that these are critically endangered. When I was about 16-17 years old I found this one It was in the very early 80's. They were plentiful. you could see them in every tide pool. But by the mid-late 80's a California Dept. of Fish and Game employee who was privately farming abalone imported some from S. Africa without properly quarantining them introduced a parasite that pretty much brought them to extinction and along with over fishing they are near extinction today. It took them over 10 years to place them on the endangered species list. Which is quite scary because it took less then ten years from being plentiful to were they are now. I shall be safegaurding this one for sure.
