Knitters Museum
This row of thatched cottages dating from the 17th century houses the Hinckley Framework Knitters Museum.
A local man by the name of William Iliffe was credited with inventing the framework knitter in 1641 to enable women to work from home producing hosiery which would normally have been done by hand. This process was quicker and therefore earned them more money.
A few years ago the museum had to be closed as the gable end was in danger of collapse unless the money could be raised to rebuild it. The town rallied round to appeals by the volunteers and in due course the repairs where undertaken and the building was re-opened
