Union Jack
flying above the castle.
Blipped from the bus - as so often - on my way back home from work.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed but the size of these flags flying above the castle changes considerably depending on what time of year it is.
When I first moved to Edinburgh we used to live just off the grassmarket and from our living room window you could see the top of the castle and said flag flying above it. On very windy days you could hardly see the flag, during the festival and especially during the tattoo this very big flag makes its appearance. On nice sunny and not very windy days a normal flag flies above the castle...
Maybe this is all just coincidence and I'm the only one who noticed this but my theory is that they don't want a flag that is torn to shreds by the wind and therefore change the quality of the flag depending on weather and visitors. However, when I asked about my theory on a tour of the castle a long time ago the guide only gave me a blank look.
Oh well, now I've published my theory on blip. What do you think?
