Not a lot of Loch to see
So our final day in Scotland and the inclement weather suggested we take a randon drive.
Heading in nowhere in particular we ended up at the Famous Grouse Experience.
Now I'd previously avoided this because I thought 'big distillery' and expected it to be a very corporate place to visit. I was wrong. It's a small distillery in a very picturesque area with very friendly staff and a good tour. I bought a tumbler that can't tumble and Tina discovered a whisky that she might actually like.
So the mist and rain is still about as we leave an hour or so later and completely by random we ended up on the road to Loch Turret. Wending our way through two or three miles of single track, avoiding the bedraggled sheep that couldn't have cared less for the rain, we cam upon the Loch Turret Dam.
We were the only ones there, shrouded in mist, we really felt like being inside a cloud. Unfortunately there where two reasons why we couldn't see much of the Loch. One was the mist and rain, the second was the water level which appeared to be quite low for the time of year. I wonder what would happen to the Glenturret distillery should these waters run dry?
In the end we had a glorious day out as we headed off towards Coupar Angus. The skies cleared, the sun shone down and we met the new manager of Brinham Hotel who showed us the very impressive baronial hall. Ideal for Kate and Steve's wedding, well apart from the distance between here and Salisbury.
And that has been one of the abiding memories of our stay; the friendliness of everyone we've spoken too.
