I took this photo because the lettering reminded me of the Art Nouveau style.
There has been a heated dispute recently in the art world regarding one of my favorite artist's Alphonse Mucha. (Czech Art Nouveau painter!)
The fierce legal struggle was regarding Mucha's works entitled The Slav Epic; a 20-canvas masterpiece spanning over two decades.
Mucha created these paintings as a tribute to his people. They have been housed in a chateau in the Moravian town of Moravsky Krumlov since the 1950s. The town's mayor has labeled the works "as the soul of Moravsky Krumlov", but it's unfortunate now because officials in Prague have won the rights to transfer and remove the paintings back into the capital, permanently.
It's a shame because i would loved to have been able to visit this town and see these works, the story of how Moravian managed to acquire and save these masterpieces is in itself inspiring.
I really hope this loss doesn't do too much damage significantly to them.
It's a shame, really.
