The bus driver's perspective
I got a no 35 bus up to town at about 4.30pm in order to meet DH and the young archaeologists for an end-of-week pint. The bus's route takes it past Holyrood Palace and the Parliament building, then up the Royal Mile as far as the Tron kirk. At this point it has to wait at a red traffic light before it turns left - the route used to go straight on here until they pedestrianised the High Street.
I should have got off at the preceding stop and walked round the corner; as it was I was standing beside the bus driver looking at the prospect for several minutes, so I took a couple of snaps. So this was taken through the bus window and I had to crop it a lot, but it's probably still worth looking at in large. There are some cycle rickshaws parked up waiting for business, a man in a fluorescent jacket presumably trying to persuade the driver of the car that the road is really closed and a lady in pink waving at the friend she has just spotted in the throng. Only the lady with the shopping bag appears to be uninterested in the f*stival shenanigans - probably a local!
