breathe
Some of you may remember White Balance, my significant other. She hasn't been on for a while, but she was a pretty regular blipper for a time.
She's had leukemia for 8 years now, and although drugs have mostly kept it at bay, we've had to suffer through flare-ups every couple of years or so.
For the past month, she's been in the hospital, trying to fight off the latest re-emergence of the disease, and though this episode has been far worse than any previous one, she was doing pretty well until early yesterday morning.
During that night, something happened in her lungs that began to prevent her from being able to breathe in enough oxygen. She was rushed to intensive care, sedated, and put on a respirator.
We still don't know if it's pneumonia or just bleeding in her lungs. The consequences of pneumonia would be dire, but the bleeding would at least offer a fighting chance at recovery, since it's something the doctors can fix without the aid of her nonexistent white blood cells (they were wiped out by the chemo she had to take two weeks ago).
So it becomes a waiting game. Waiting for her stats to improve. Waiting for something to change. Waiting for some kind of enlightenment.
Sitting in a dark waiting room, and waiting in the dark.
She's not getting worse, so at least that's encouraging. We should know more by Monday or Tuesday.
I'll try to keep you posted.
