Chautauqua Belle
Today we journeyed to Chautauqua, a gorgeous artist colony not far from my in-law's house. There were a ton of neat things to see and one of my favorites was the Chautauqua Belle. This is an authentic paddle wheel boat the wanders Chautauqua Lake. It stopped by the place we were visiting and so we had a close-up look. I wanted to go for a cruise, but the length was 2 hours and the little TMGs would have gone crazy being cooped up so long!
The neat thing about the boat is that it really relies on the paddle wheel for power. There is no propeller or other hidden propulsion apparatus. It is steam powered although it is update to run on diesel fuel rather than coal.
In this image, the boat is heading out and blowing its steam whistle to warn nearby boaters that it is backing out.
