Severe gale

A Force 9 gale battered the Isle of Lewis on Friday afternoon, and sustained winds in excess of 70 mph were recorded at the Butt of Lewis, with gusts of 82 mph. This blip shows the spray being blown over the Goat Island causeway (for those who know the locality: this was taken between the Coastguard Station and the Battery powerstation). All ferry sailings were off, and people in the shops were actually surprised that there were empty shelves. Hello, we live in an island, so everything comes on a boat. So if the boat doesn't go, you don't get your fruit & veg.
