A wedding in Windsor
We should know not to go to a wedding by train after the last time. However, we made it to The Guildhall just before the bride - phew!
There were emergency engineering works that closed the track to Windsor and we had a tense and somewhat comical journey. The best bit for me was this... We caught a very delayed Reading train, which was full of teenagers going to Thorpe Park and all of us had to change at Virginia Water. However, the train was too long for the Virginia Water platform so didn't open the doors of the last four carriages. The guard didn't tell us this, though, and only realised that he had a train packed with an angry mob when we were halfway to the next station. So the train reversed several miles to let us off. Crazy! But we got there in the end.
The wedding was wonderful! I especially liked the grand Guildhall with all the portraits of the royals gazing down at us - we were particularly taken with the stance of Kiing Edward VII. The painting in The Guildhall is the one you can see at the top of the Wikipedia article.
