Operation Stork

Some of you may have seen my or shutterbugsue's pictures of the poor Wood Stork that has had a multi hook fishing lure lodged in his face and neck, for at least three weeks. Despite requests for help to various agencies and 'Fish and Wildlife', nothing seemed to be happening. On Sunday, I fired off letters to the local daily paper, and sent emails to the 'Parks and Recreations office', and I understand that four rangers spent some time yesterday trying to catch the bird, to no avail. EZHighway gave me a number to call, and today, a marvellous couple drove up from Sarasota, a good 31/2 hour journey, with a net gun, and caught him. he was wary, having been chased about a bit lately, but the deed was done. They took the wretched hooks from his neck and carried him off back to Sarasota, where he will be treated with antibiotics, as he had quite a bit of infection. When he is better, they will bring him back and release him where we found him, and hopefully I shall be able to document the event.
