Doorway
Went to town today to kit the children out for school which starts on Wednesday next week. We collected their schoolbooks and bought them their first (very basic) mobile phones. The mobile phones are a cause of great excitement to them because apparently, at 12 and 14 years, they were the last kids in the entire universe to be given mobile phones by their evil parents. Yeah right. Their father and I could almost see their noses growing longer as we listened to that.
We walked past this open doorway of a restaurant located in an old maison de maitre and I liked what I saw: heavy, hob-nailed front door painted a very deep green that was almost black, the interior door made of elaborately carved oak with its grand brass knocker and door handle, the inlaid pierre bleue belge floor tiles and the welcome mat in front of the restaurant's main door (not visible).
I shall now spend the rest of August doing what every mother hates - covering school books, LOTS of them.
