Did Tom Waits appear in a film as a man in a bear suit?

I have brought this up at unnecessary frequency over the years for little or no reason - convinced myself it is true but completely unsure.

Do i want ever to be sure?

This is an analogy to faith. A rubbish one but good enough for me.
