Common name: Thistle, Russian (no idea why it has this name or where it originated)

Whilst I was doing weed and flammable foliage abatement up at our vacant lot in Ramona I thought I'd show you non SoCal people the kind of weeds that grow around here.

This seedling was sticking up out of the ground about 1 1/2 inches (4 cm) in this blip. I pulled this prickly weed out and saved him to measure his taproot, which was 3 1/2 inches (9 cm). Tomorrow I am going to try and find an adult plant to blip.
