Sunshine at Shudehill
Last night I went out with a couple of friends from the camera club to see what we could see in Central Manchester. We had been put off by rain twice before and decided that this time we would go anyway, and that if rain persisted we would decamp to the pub. There was no light, just a grey flatness, but we met up and decided to look at the Northern Quarter which has been revamped in recent years. It is now a mixture of workshops, galleries, small shops, and boutique pubs.
We found some wonderful graffitti see here and spent some happy time photographing it. Then as we wandered past the refurbished fish market, we bumped in to some girls who were following a trail of some 40 space invaders placed high upon the walls of the City. They had so far found 10 and still had quite a few to go.
Round about then, the sun came out. We followed it and came upon the bus and tram station in Shudehill. It's not the obvious place for glory with the steel and glass station located between fading Victorian architectural beauties and the back of the getting really tatty 1960's Arndale Centre. However, the sun was shining on the Victorian brickwork as though it were a mirror reflecting that wonderful late day yellow light.
So, after miserable beginnings, the evening was declared a success. And we still had time for that pint!
