Local history has it that Humpty Dumpty was Cardinal Wolsey. He was the Archbishop of York and had his summer residence in Cawood. His great fall was his fall from power when he was arrested (in Cawood) by King Henry VIII. Wolsey died a prisoner on his way to London to be tried for treason.
