He doesn't always get along with other dogs, so before taking the kids to the dog park, we walked them around the trail, which includes a leash-free run that helps to work off some of his excessive energy. The goal was to make him a little less anxious. It worked, but he was still rather grumpy - not in an, "I'm going to bite your face off," kind of way - just growling a bit. He didn't even bark at anyone. That's progress.
I think the dog park was a bit overwhelming for him with so many dogs wanting to say hi and play. He was the only dog on a leash in the off-leash section. He didn't care. He just didn't want any other dogs sniffing his booty or trying to share his water bowl.
She was completely worn out after the walk. She was super happy to be at the dog park: saying hi, sniffing, making new friends. She made it all the way to the end of the fence, found a shady - very dusty - area under a tree, and methodically plopped on the ground, spread out and waited for me to rub her belly, quite effectively coating half her body in dirt. And she stayed that way. I called her name, "Come on, baby, let's go." She didn't budge. Hubby had to carry her all the way out of the park and to the car, "She could lose five pounds."
