Don't know why there's no sun up in the sky...
Stormy weather...
Five minutes before I took this there was a thunderstorm, then the clouds cleared to a blue sky.
A local museum had a 1940's day. Lot's of jeeps, trucks, and old men in recreated uniforms and ladies in scarlet lipstick. I found more interest in the boxes, helmets and small items in the backs of the trucks than in the same jeeps and trucks that seem to appear at so many events. Perhaps I'm just a little too jaded.
This is an Austin Seven. The reflection in the petrol cap is that of the west wing of the Workhouse, dating from 1777. One of my favourite places, a building with real character which outshines the modern museum content. The history of the place and the attitude of the varying regimes contrats with it's current entertainment and educational role. After workhouses were abolished, it became a wartime military camp, then a care home for older people, and finally a museum. I believe that there is only one other workhouse in the UK open as a museum.
