Giant Polypore (Meripilus giganteus)
A visit to 'my wood' produced a new species for me - Giant Polypore.
This one was growing on the stump of an old Beech tree which is a very common habitat for this species. They arise from the roots of Beech (or in some cases Oak) in autumn and are common.
They are edible but bitter so not to be recommended if you find one.
