Castle Cornet commands the entrance to St Peter Port Harbour. It has had a long and varied history involving the British, the French, the Germans - and even occasionally Guernsey folk. This morning this cruise liner has anchored just off the Castle. She is the "Oriana" a P&O boat.

In a little while, doors down at sea level will open up, and tender-loads of passengers will be brought ashore to spend the day in St Peter Port. Tonight, when they are all safely counted back on board the Oriana will set sail again to start the process all over again in Jersey or St Malo or wherever.

The vast share of Guernsey's economic wealth depends on Financial Services - off-shore wealth. But tourism is important too. And cruise liners a relatively new part of that sector.
