Cat
A sad, upsetting end to an otherwise normal day.
Walking home after a nice evening with my sister I spotted a young boy acting strangely, he was moving a roadworks sign at the side of the road and looked upset. He then walked by me and I saw he was distressed. As I got to the sign I saw why.
A beautiful grey striped cat with soft white tummy, lying twisted and terribly injured at the side of the road. Poor little thing didn't stand a chance and had obviously been run over by a car or a bus. I didn't want to look too closely as the cat was fatally injured and it was quite upsetting to see, so I carried on home.
Once there, my conscience overwhelmed me and I decided to go back to see if the little cat had a collar. I had no idea what I would say to the owner if there was a disc with details, but I knew I had to do something.
Arriving back, I saw that there was no collar and therefore no way of letting the owners know what had happened to their pet. I came back home and did the only thing I could think of, which was to phone the council. Thankfully I spoke to a very kind, sympathetic man who said he would get someone out to take care of the cat. I suspect taking care of the cat would not be done in a caring kind manner, a dead animal is a dead animal to the cleansing Department, but his kind words made me feel a bit better about it all.
Some of you are probably thinking "It's a cat, what's the fuss?" but that cat was most likely someone's furry family member, a pet who shared their home. I'd like to think if my cat had ever suffered that someone would do what they could to help. I might have my conscience salved slightly but I'm still shedding tears for that poor wee cat and for the owners who will never have him home again.
