Panic panic panic!!!!!!
This morning, my running number arrived for the Great North Run. In just over 2 weeks, I will be running 13.1 miles around Newcastle, along with 53,999 other people who have nothing better to do of a Sunday morning.
To run a half marathon, and specifically this half marathon (the most popular in the world!!) has been an ambition of mine for quite some time, but I never thought I'd actually do it. And the idea seemed particularly ridiculous approximately 9 months ago, while pregnant with Maddy and unable to walk without crutches! I have no idea what made me think this would be a good idea when I entered the ballot in February, other than a need for a challenge, and the genuine belief that my ballot entry wouldn't be successful. By some miracle, my ballot entry was successful, and I got my challenge! 7 months later, I am fitter than I've ever been in my life, and as ready as I'll ever be to take part in the Great North Run. I owe a huge thanks to my amazing running buddy and friend Phil, who I could not have got this far without, but due to injury is sadly unable to join me on the big day! I'm very nervous, very excited, and very proud to be raising money for an amazing local charity - St Leonard's Hospice. The people at the hospice do the most incredible work, and they couldn't do any of it without donations and fundraising. Please, please, please sponsor me at www.justgiving.com/laylaeldon
