Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann
Airport duty today, taking Will back; and I then headed into Cork city. It was sweltering, not the kind of day to be traipsing around shops, but the city was buzzing mainly because it was flag day for Comhaltas - a group that promotes traditional Irish music - and dance. The music was good - two girls playing the fiddle, one playing an accordion and one playing the pipes - but it was the two young dancers who were mesmerising. I love the way the boy is staring straight at me as he carries on doing energetic moves. While he is doing his thing the girl looked on, then she did her bit. Irish dancing is all about doing astonishing things with your legs while the rest of you keeps very still - it's highly disciplined and very athletic and a great joy to watch!
There were also plenty of other buskers out an about and a lady in red being a statue.
I was also memesmerised by a nun in Marks and Spencers - my second choice for a blip - she was in the tights section and spent about half an hour making her choice!
The joys and intricacies of city life!
