A garden of a different sort today: the new Dunedin Chinese Garden had it's first open day. Was a great chance to have a look at what we have only seen the periphery of.
Was amazed at the idiotic, parochial, and plain racist comments that came from some of the people in our tour group. Was a good reminder as to some of the intent behind the gardens - to recognise, celebrate and make amends for the fact that Chinese were some of the first and worst treated immigrants to the country. We wouldn't be where we are without them
