The Tallest Tree in Britain
This is, according to the Tree Register, the tallest measured tree in Britain. It's an Abies grandis, or grand fir (not a native species), and in 1989 was 208 feet high.
It resides, along with 4 other champion trees, in Ardkinglas Woodland Garden, near Cairndow on the road to Inverary. We came here, after a boat trip on Loch Lomond, today. The wee man is enjoying his camping.
Digging around, this 'tallest tree' business is a highly competitive one - there are competing claims from the likes of Blair Atholl and Powys. Keeps a few tree climbers in business though
