Dubrovnik

After a long and hungover bus journey we made it to Dubrovnik. We eventually found our hostel and called it a night.

The next morning we got up really early and headed down into the old town for a coffee. Like Montenegro, Croatia has seen a massive tourist boom over the last years. Dubrovnik was exactly how I'd imagined it; a compact, terracotta topped pie of a city compressed tightly into the old city walls that fell straight down in to the clear blue sea.

It was nice to be there early, when things were just starting to stir. The market had just opened and the locals had gathered to sell and buy fruit and veg and the fisherman in the harbour area were fixing their nets. Come ten o'clock though and it was different story. The foghorn blared from the colossal ships and gave warning of the cruise ship zombies that were about to invade the city. Groups of tourists clad with cameras, socks and sandals and visa hats followed someone with a big cardboard stick. It became almost impossible to cross the street without being caught up in the marching drones. It was like some sort of dystopia. We got out of there and headed for Mostar, Bosnia.
