Once you have finally decided to take some night pictures, you go out with your tripod, you remove your image stabiliser, set up everything in the corner you know is interesting after sunset... Well, once you have done everything... everybody is already out with their cars, motorcycles, etc exactly in the street where you are taking pictures... ;-)
