Trailing Behind
I know this type of shot has probably become a cliche but, as this journal is about me trying to learn photography, I gave it a go anyway. I have always been impressed by shots of light trails, especially those taken on motorways, for example, where you get two distinct flows of light i.e. white for advancing and red for retreating cars.
As this was taken in the middle of Edinburgh it's not great but I do like the patterns that the lights make and the general red glow which comes from the traffic lights changing to red just as I clicked the shutter-release button.
I don't have a tripod so used a sturdy post-box so there is maybe a bit of camera shake in there too. I think the main problem is that the road wasn't busy enough and that the surroundings were quite light. Maybe for a better effect I should try darker settings with a tripod...?
Given that the nights are drawing in now I fear there might be a few of these shots for the next 10 months or so until summer comes around again...practice makes perfect.
