Next Generation

With the present personnel shortage at sea and especially in the offshore, the mentor role becomes extremely important. Not only for the apprentice, but our company is also interested in the next generation offshore personnel of course.
This is Bastiaan, brother of Lars (remember Him?)

When you're more than thirty years at sea, you will recognize the ones fit to become the future captains and chief engineers immediately. This is one of them, I am sure. Eager to learn, willing to work and a good attitude. That should be enough for an easy mentor role this trip. Here you see Bas learning to establish the error on our magnetic compass. That's quite simple; you take a magnetic compass bearing of the sun when it comes up, calculate what the true bearing of the sun is for this location, time and date, and the difference must be you compass error.
