Did you know that:

Damsons originate from the area around Damascus, Syria?

Damsons were brought to Britain by the Romans?

That they were grown prolifically in the north of England from the beginning of the industrial revolution to produce dye from their skins for the cotton mills of Lancashire?

That during the 1930's charabancs from Lancashire used to take day trippers to see the damson blossom in the orchards of Westmorland?
