New Regent Street
This morning I had to go into the centre of the city to pick up my brother, who had arrived up a couple of days ago from Balclutha, to help with Building Inspections of houses. There were inspectors from many parts of NZ helping, and they finished the job quicker than expected.
So it was my first time to go into the centre of town, and see what was happening.
It is not quite as bad as I thought. Yes there are buildings down or coming down, but the city was not flattened as much as the impression I had, and a lot of things are going on as normal.
I did not want to be a 'rubber necker' - so leapt out of my car to take this photo.
No artistic skills here. I just wanted to show that the trams are working, and New Regent Street with its Spanish Facades are all still standing, except there is one that is 'suspect'.
There were very few people in the street, but it was 10am.
Tonight we are off to a nephew's engagement party, just the 'rellies', so it will be good to be together, and all be able to talk about our experiences.
