New life for old wood

T is busy building a second Adirondack chair.

Your comments on his first chair have helped inspire him, so thank you, folks. This one is made entirely out of salvaged oak, so it will look more rustic than the first one. Most of the wood came from a hideous, warped picnic table we inherited from the previous owner of this house. The rest of the wood we recovered from the side of the road - old floor boards that people had thrown out. You'll see the chair arms in the foreground. The backrest is propped against the glass doors. The dowels are sitting on the arm of the other chair. Instead of using nails or glue to hold the chair together, T's using dowels he made himself and, yes, he's a bit mad like that. So apart from a Euro or two on electricity to run the sander, this chair cost nothing to build.

It's going to be a beauty!

p.s.
If you look closely at the original chair, you'll see dark purple stains on the arms and backrest, courtesy of some young robins. They've been gorging themselves on elderberries in the hedgerows and leaving their visiting cards all over our terrace, the little hooligans.
