A bubble heart for Mary
There are times in your life when you really need a friend, you need to turn to someone.
It breaks my heart that Mary is leaving LA next month as her husband has military orders to move to Boston. Perhaps in life we are meant to meet people whom we are not destined to be long term neighbours with, nor special school buddies with, but who are with us through some of the hardest times, like little angels, a part of our journey in this life.
It is hard to imagine how I would have coped this year when Mary stepped in on so many occasions to watch Callum and we barely knew each other, times when Reuben was in intensive care or surgery. I wished we had met earlier, that shall remain my only regret, not realising that for much of the last two years of living here, Mary was but a short stroll away. It took the early start programme at UCLA on the other side of town for our boys to meet and in doing so, us.
Mary came over 10 minutes ago and 5 minutes ago I shot this photo. The camera took the shot and there was little after I had to do to make it. Even that little spot of sunlight on the cusp of the heart is divine.
We are both in the photo and perhaps if we look really hard we will see our boys playing too in the garden.
Thank you for your loving, selfless friendship Mary. Thank you for being rock solid. Your quiet disposition speaks a thousands words.
I'll miss the margarita times.
