Tribute to Nurses
Night duty calls.
Tonight's been particularly busy, though weekends are generally quiet. Call bells have been frequent than usual.
I was hoping for an uneventful night. As I was doing about my rounds, one particular patient began "teary-eyed" and feeling sorry about his present state of body weakness. Another was screaming of pain due to a tissued vein from various intravenous drug administration. The next patient had to be fed instantly due to hypoglyceamia. I had to rush to attend to another lady who needed anti-emetics for nausea. It was one episode to another. This was a long night shift.
The thing is, I consider myself blessed for I was there when they needed a hand to reach out to for comfort and warmth. I was there when they needed someone to listen to their bawls of despair. I was there to understand to the cry of their hearts for consolation and healing. I was there.
As I walked out of the hospital, a new day welcomed me. I saw this lovely rainbow on the horizon. But it was not just an ordinary rainbow. It brought a smile to my face and peace to my heart. A graceful reminder that, at the end of the day, it's not about what we, nurses do. It's all about the impartation of "hope" in their hearts that after they have suffered for a little while will soon come healing and restoration.
I give tribute to my fellow nurses out there. No matter how hard-pressed, rushed off, and exhausted they can be on each shift, these dedicated continue to serve always with a smile on their faces, with willing hands, and with joyful hearts!
Blessings your way!
