Prairie Grass
We went back to the hawk watch today. Saw many Sharp Shinned Hawks, Chimney Swifts and one Bald Eagle. I thought the eagle was a plane in the distance it was so large. (No, it wasn't superman...is it a bird, is it a plane...)
In between birds we enjoyed the grasses and insects and flowers and chatting with the other birders. I found out that the tall grasses that grow on this hill are different kinds of prairie grass that were planted here a few years ago. It used to grow wild and maybe it will again someday.
With this image I was trying to capture the subtle beauty of grassland. We mostly think of it as empty land ready to be developed and it makes me sad when I think of how much is gone. Kind of ironic when I think that our next stop after birding was Ikea to buy cheap furniture. Hmmm.
**** BIG EXCITEMENT **** Last night on our way to see a movie (Inception, intriguing and good) we saw a MINK running across the road. A mink, in the middle of Toronto! Now if that doesn't give me hope, what will?
Edit: Changed my mind about the image...previous one is here.
