Minimalism
Today saw a visit to Gairloch from 2 members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra - Adrian (Double Bass) and Lorna (Violin). They were accompanied by Louise, who works for the orchestra. We are taking part in the SCO Masterworks Series, this year's project being Minimalism.
Apart from studying the works of Steve Reich, John Adams and Aaron Jay Kernis, we are learning a lot about Minimalism and its place in 20th. Century music. The work will culminate in a concert at Eden Court in Inverness at the end of the month.
The kids had a great time, trying to re-create Adams' "Shaker Loops" using their own instruments; in this shot, Kieran is being the conductor of the group.
The performance was enhanced by the HUGE noise of the hailstones hitting the Velux windows from time to time. The thunder and lightening were also bonus sound effects!
