A piece of Glasgow

I'm not really sure what this is but it caught my eye today. It's cast iron & has the markings of Glasgow Corporation on it. Mayr gas or electricity as there are old pipes coming from the side. Any ideas?

It is a faded & flaked green with the inevitable marks of passers by on it. I have however been playing with an iPhone app to pick put the details.

A very productive day & now I'm ready to be taking into the land of nod.
