The Shell
I wanted to blip this last night but didn't have time.
This 15-inch Howitzer shell was made by William Beardmore & Co and converted into a charity collecting box after the First World War. It stood for many years in the middle of Glasgow Central station concourse and was a favourite meeting place for courting couples. I vaguely remember it.
In 1966 the shell was removed from the centre of the concourse in and is now rather sadly tucked away in a corner. Here's a picture from 1955
Let's start a "Restore The Shell" campaign !!!
