CAMBODIA 3

Tuol Sleng prison, which has now turned into a museum. It used to be the secret prison where Pol Pot would cunduct tortures on those who were "threatening" his regime.

The Cambodia genocide happened in the late 70's but to this day they are still trying to figure out who to hold responsible and punish for the mass killings that took place all across Cambodia.

i actually met a lawyer from Canada who has been working here for the past year in precisely this area.

Pol Pot, who was the leader of the Khmer Rouge has already died, but a lot of the other leaders have not. In the coming years the Cambodian people are hoping that the leaders of the Khmer Rouge will be punished for their crimes against humanity.

Walking through the prison was a very somber experience to say the least. Knowing you were walking through rooms where innocent people were continuously starved, tortured and raped before they were killed.

Cambodia has a horrific past from which they are still trying to fully recover. Progress has been made, but there is still a long way to go for this nation full of beautiful, talented, chosen, strong, beaten yet hopeful people.
