Iron Chicken?

I found this little chap lurking in the shrubbery - I doscovered him while I was doing some much needed pruning in the Spring. The people who out him there must have forgotten about him.

He reminds me of a couple of things - a bit of the Iron Chicken from The Clangers (http://www.freewebs.com/1969clangers/w3.htm#the_iron_chicken) but mostly Professor Yaffle, from Bagpuss (http://www.smallfilms.co.uk/bagpuss/people.htm#Yaffle).
