Tunnel of Death

Down in the catacombs of Domitilla in Rome. Eleven miles of tunnels housing 150,000 tombs, dating from the third century. Photography not permitted for some reason, so I sneaked this furtive shot on the iPhone before a smug American woman said in a very condescending tone: "hello my little friend, if I'm not allowed to take photos then neither are you".

Luckily I had the good sense to say keep my mouth shut despite thinking up some choice ripostes.
