Napoleon King of Italy in Milan

The Kingdom of Italy was founded on March 17, 1805, when the Italian Republic, whose president was Napoleon, became Kingdom of Italy, with Napoleon as King of Italy, and his adopted son Eugène de Beauharnais as viceroy.

Napoleon was crowned in Milan?s cathedral on May 26, with the Iron Crown of Lombardy.
Napoleon title was "Emperor of the French and King of Italy" (Empereurs des Français & Roi d'Italie), showing the importance of this Italian Kingdom for him.

The capital was Milan and at greatest extent stretched from Milan to Venice, and from the Alto Adige (Sud Tirol) in the Alps down the Adriatic Coast until it meet the Kingdom of Naples.

The administrative system was Napoleonic with departments and prefects, with universal education and Italian as the language, with French used ceremonially.

Prince Eugene lead the Kingdom of Italy Army which recruited 200,000 men effectively in many of the Emperor's campaigns.

This statue finds itself in the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan, there is another fine example of napoleonic imperial propaganda on the Roman model outside but it was too dark to get a good image.
