Cooling Their Heels
One at a time, these ducks are cooling their heels and sleeping in a small pond in the wild area of the our golf course.
They may be resting at this quiet place on a migration journey. They are not normal residents of this area.
Water is here in the Arizona September because the golf course is being wetted down in preparation to sow seeds for the winter crop of rye grass. One more day of play and then the course will shut down for three weeks.
The summer crop of Bermuda grass will become dormant and turn yellow as soon as the weather cools off to below 50 degrees F at nighttime.
