White fronted terns
The white fronted terns are starting to arrive at the ChCh Estuary from up North, there has been an increase to about 18 birds at my patch - they will breed here by laying 1 or two eggs in amongst the rocks or in a srape in the sand or shingle. They are qwuite friendlt with red billed gulls and will get on reasonable well in colonies with them. Their eggs are pretty well camoflaged - looking a lot like pebbles of a light light stone colour with dark brown blotches.
I love these birds in flight and will endeavour to post one soon - they are not too easy to capture in flight as they flit hither and thither!! -
