poignant....
well, I was going to blip baby number 4 (miss piggy) took photos and everything, BUT went to daughters school production tonight.
The whole school is involved - it was marvellous - each classroom did a decade of history, featuring all sorts of things, from the napier earthquake, the signing of the treaty, to the springbok tour (miss B was a policeman in this scene), the americas cup, Ed Hillary, the first man on the moon, and the 1974 commonwealth games with the games song ( I love that song). This whole thing narrated and tied together by the "famous five" who have shifted from England to NZ and found a magic treasure chest filled with items from each decade - as they pulled out each item they "timewarped" to that period and the history lesson began.
For this photo Let me set the scene.
Two boys run on the stage with newspapers, and announce war. Then guys dressed in Army clothing and girls in appropriate period costume dance a little to some timely music, then the army guys march up and down while 3 girls sing the boogie woogie buggle boy song... then the army guys go to war.. appropriate noises.. then silence - the army guys (as shown in the photo) sit down as if in the trenches writing letters home... while they are doing this a lone girl sits at a table reading a letter, while drinking her coffee (Miss B tells me it was just water! LOL), and a voice over reads the letter out loud ....
It was very poignant (sp?), and I spied more than one or two people wiping their eyes.
Then the last post was played as the army guys got up and ran off, and two children laid a poppy wreath.
They were all EXCELLENT scenes, the staging and costumes were absolutely brilliant. All original stuff from teachers and children.
Great Stuff Fernside School!!!!!!!
